Inanna and Ishtar: identify the text
Identify two different descent compositions and see exactly which side of the comparison has been reviewed.
| Question | Sumerian Inanna | Akkadian Ishtar |
|---|---|---|
| Which work? | Inana’s Descent to the Netherworld, ETCSL 1.4.1. | A separate Akkadian work, Descent of Ishtar. |
| What has been read here? | Selected Oxford passages describe departure, instructions, stripped regalia and the need for a substitute. | The eBL work doorway was located, but its reader did not expose the text during this review. |
| Can we compare the full plots? | The linked evidence record identifies the specific passages reviewed. | A full passage-level comparison remains pending a readable named edition. |
| What is the responsible next action? | Read the remaining Oxford translation and its witness notes. | Obtain a readable edition and preserve its line numbers. Do not fill the unreviewed column from general memory. |
Keep work identity visible
Using Inanna and Ishtar as corresponding divine names does not make two literary compositions interchangeable. The Sumerian story is available in English; inaccessible web rendering of an Akkadian edition is an access problem, not evidence that the work has never been translated.
