Make the distinction.
A detail may serve character, contrast or movement within the story. Before assigning a fixed correspondence, ask what evidence the text supplies. Keep a useful imaginative exercise labelled as your own rather than declaring that disagreement shows spiritual blindness.
An everyday example.
A group notices a repeated image and offers several possible readings. They return to the passage to see which interpretation explains more of it and which questions remain open. The exercise supports discussion rather than one interpreter’s authority.
A practice you can choose.
Retell the story plainly, identify its tension and then add one labelled interpretation. Preserve an alternative question.
You may adapt or decline the exercise. No personal disclosure, submission or agreement with an interpretation is required.
Babylon’s reading context.
The Universal Library distinguishes a work’s identity, the edition being read and Babylon’s authored interpretation. Different ancient books are not interchangeable simply because they use a shared image. These companions introduce reading tasks and connect to longer studies; they are not new translations of the full works. Keep a passage’s address and speaker visible. When an attribution cannot be located, leave it open rather than presenting a modern paraphrase as an ancient quotation.
Take the question into a deeper reading.
Keep the conversation open.
