The seven Double letters

Bet, Gimel, Dalet, Kaf, Peh, Resh, and Tav form the seven-letter family used in Babylon’s broader planetary map.

Understand the idea

Double is the family name in the Sefer Yetzirah classification. Babylon’s adopted broader map pairs Bet with Saturn, Gimel with Jupiter, Dalet with Mars, Kaf with the Sun, Peh with Venus, Resh with Mercury, and Tav with the Moon. This table identifies the correspondences used in this library; it is not a claim that every edition or tradition has the same assignments. The current daily protocol counts five moving rulers and gives Sun and Moon their own roles. A seven-letter family and a five-ruler operational group can therefore coexist.

MAKE IT PRACTICAL

An example to work with

Sort seven letter cards into two current-method groups: the five moving rulers, and the Sun and Moon. Explain why Kaf and Tav remain Double letters even though the luminaries are not counted among the five rulers.
